General Secretary receives Chairman of Thailand's ruling party

On the morning of June 25, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation arrived in Bangkok, beginning an official visit to the Kingdom of Thailand, at the invitation of the Prime Minister of the Royal Government of Thailand, Yingluck Shinawatra.

Welcoming General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and the Vietnamese high-ranking delegation at Don Muang International Airport were Thai Deputy Prime Minister Yokol Limlemthong; Interior Minister Charupon Ruangsuwan; Thai Government officials; Vietnamese Ambassador to Thailand Ngo Duc Thang and officials from the Vietnamese Embassy in Thailand.

On June 25, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong had a meeting with Chairman of the ruling Pheu Thai Party Jarupong Ruangsuwan.

President Ruangsuwan informed General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong about the development history of the Pheu Thai Party and the party's role in the development of Thailand.

President Ruangsuwan expressed his firm belief that under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the Vietnamese people will continue to gain even greater achievements in the cause of innovation and national industrialization and modernization.

General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong expressed his delight at Thailand's strong development in recent years, including the important contributions of the Party for Thailand; affirmed that the Communist Party of Vietnam advocates developing and expanding relations with political parties in the region and the world on the basis of ensuring national interests, maintaining independence, self-reliance, for peace, friendship, cooperation and development.

General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and Chairman Jarupong Ruangsuwan agreed on the policy of establishing exchanges and delegations at all levels between the two Parties to exchange information and share experiences in leading and managing the country.

General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong invited President Ruangsuwan to visit Vietnam. President Ruangsuwan happily accepted.

On the same afternoon, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation visited the Vietnamese Embassy in Thailand, had a friendly talk with embassy staff and representatives of overseas Vietnamese, officials and Vietnamese students living, working and studying in Thailand.

The General Secretary listened to the aspirations, opinions and recommendations of officials, overseas Vietnamese students and overseas Vietnamese; and highly appreciated the positive contributions of officials and staff of the Vietnamese Embassy in Thailand to the development of Vietnam-Thailand relations over the past years.

The General Secretary informed about some aspects of the situation and the work that the Party, State and people are focusing on implementing in the spirit of the Resolution of the 11th National Congress and the resolutions of the Central Committee, in order to overcome difficulties, maintain economic growth, ensure social security, build a clean and strong Party, expand foreign relations... and contribute ideas to the Draft Amendment of the 1992 Constitution.

General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong hopes that the staff of the Embassy and the Vietnamese community in Thailand will learn from their experiences, enrich their knowledge, contribute to the construction of their homeland and actively contribute to the development of the Vietnam-Thailand friendship and cooperation in the spirit of the strategic partnership.

On the same day, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong visited the Jade Buddha Temple.

Also on June 25, Politburo member and Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc received a delegation from the Asian Peace and Reconciliation Council led by Mr. Surakiet Sathienthai, former Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand and Chairman of the Council.

The Asian Peace and Reconciliation Council was established in 2012 as a non-governmental organization with the participation of citizens of Asian countries, aiming to promote peace and reconciliation in the region. Mr. Surakiet asked Vietnam to support the activities and send representatives to join the council.

Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc welcomed the council's operating criteria and affirmed that as a country that has experienced many wars and loves peace, Vietnam always supports organizations fighting for peace and Vietnam will send representatives to participate in the organization./.
