On the morning of July 3, the working delegation of the General Department of Population and Family Planning led by Dr. Le Canh Nhac - Deputy Director General of the General Department of Population and Family Planning had a working session with the Provincial People's Committee on the results of the implementation of population and family planning work in 2012, the first 6 months of 2013 and a number of other activities under the direction of the Central and the province.

The report assessing the results of the implementation of population and family planning work in the first 6 months of 2013 in the province shows that, thanks to the simultaneous implementation of many population policies and the promotion of communication and mobilization work, population work has had many positive changes, many targets set by the General Department of Population have been achieved and exceeded such as providing reproductive health care/family planning services, prenatal screening of children; many projects and models have been effectively implemented.

However, besides that, the province's population and family planning work still faces many difficulties, including the high number of people giving birth to a third child or more. The third child birth rate in 2012 was 18.86%, an increase of 3.8% compared to 2011. The sex ratio at birth was 115 boys/100 girls.

In the first 6 months of 2013, the estimated number of children born was 24,680, an increase of 331 children (1.36%) compared to the same period in 2012. The number of children born as the third child or more in the first 5 months of the year was 4,057, the estimated number for the first 6 months was 4,814, accounting for 19.5% (an increase of 3.3%) compared to the same period in 2012. The sex ratio at birth was 114 boys/100 girls, making it one of the 10 provinces with the highest gender imbalance in the country.

Acknowledging the efforts of Nghe An province over the past years, comrade Le Canh Nhac - Deputy Director General of the General Department of Population/Family Planning highly appreciated the province's advisory and direction work in population work, especially the direction of implementing Directive 09 of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Resolution No. 52, 53 of the Provincial People's Council on a number of population - family planning policies, flexibility in signing commitments, and sanctioning population violations.

He directed that in the coming time, in addition to implementing the 8 proposed solutions, the province needs to invest and pay attention to providing population services, promote inspection, improve population quality through 3-level screening, pre-marital health counseling, and focus on caring for the elderly. He requested the Steering Committee for Population and Family Planning to have solutions to control population growth, reduce gender imbalance, and population quality, promptly improve the organization and staff, and pay attention to directing districts to summarize 10 years of implementing the Population Ordinance.
