The General Department of Roads sends an urgent dispatch on changing driving licenses.

On November 12, the Vietnam Road Administration sent an urgent dispatch to the Department of Transport of provinces and cities to guide on converting paper driving licenses to PET driving licenses.

According to the reflection of some Departments of Transport, recently the number of people who need to change their paper driving licenses to Pet driving licenses has increased dramatically, causing overload for the issuance and change of driving licenses. The reason is due to incorrect information that after December 31, 2014, if paper driving licenses are not changed to Pet driving licenses, they will no longer be used.

"Currently, there are no regulations to penalize people who use paper driving licenses issued by competent authorities with the remaining validity period stated on the license but have not yet converted to PET driving licenses," the dispatch of the General Department of Roads clearly stated.

The Vietnam Road Administration also requested the Departments of Transport to strengthen their capacity, reform administrative procedures, and increase the working hours of the driving license issuance and renewal departments to promptly resolve people's need to renew driving licenses.

Previously, according to the roadmap of the General Department of Road Traffic, car driving licenses must be converted before December 31; Class A4 driving licenses must be converted before December 31, 2015; For indefinite driving licenses (including classes A1, A2, A3): Licenses issued before 2003 must be converted before December 31, 2016, issued before 2004 must be converted before December 31, 2017, issued before 2007 must be converted before December 31, 2018, issued before 2010 must be converted before December 31, 2019 and issued after 2010 must be converted before December 31, 2020.
