General Director of BMW car import company arrested
Euro Auto's General Director and two employees have just been arrested to investigate violations in importing BMW cars in Vietnam.
On April 27, the Department of Police for Prevention of Economic Crimes and Corruption (C46, Ministry of Public Security) executed a search warrant and temporarily detained Mr. Nguyen Dang Thao (General Director of Euro Auto Company - the official importer and distributor of BMW cars) to investigate the act of smuggling.
In connection with the case, two delivery employees of the company were also prosecuted on the same charges.
Initially, authorities determined that Mr. Thao used fake documents to import the BMW car to Vietnam.

Signs of wrongdoing by the boss of Euro Auto Corporation were discovered many months ago. In November, the Ministry of Finance sent a dispatch to the General Department of Customs requesting to stop customs clearance of imported BMW cars, except for those with preferential treatment and diplomatic immunity... after claiming that the company used fake documents for importation.
The management agency said that this company arbitrarily consumed goods (imported BMW cars) without customs clearance. In addition, Au Chau Auto is also said to have intentionally failed to provide the Certificate of Origin (C/O) and records, certificates, and documents of the BMW cars imported by the company, showing signs of fraud and deception of customers.
The Ministry of Finance also said that the company used fake documents such as sales contracts, commercial invoices... to import BMW cars.
The General Department of Customs' Anti-Smuggling Investigation Department then decided to prosecute the Smuggling case that occurred at this company - based on the investigation results and after discussing and consulting with the Supreme People's Procuracy.
The Anti-smuggling Investigation Department also transferred the case file to the Investigation Police Agency (C46) - Ministry of Public Security at the end of December 2016./.
