Lao Cai suffered heavy damage after storm No. 10 Bualoi
Storm No. 10 (Bualoi) caused serious damage to Lao Cai. Reports as of 11am on October 1 showed 10 people dead and missing, 9 injured. Thousands of houses had their roofs blown off and were submerged in water. Total damage was estimated at 2,750 billion VND, a shocking figure for the locality.

The floods damaged more than 2,300 hectares of crops and swept away nearly 9,900 livestock and poultry. Over 103 hectares of aquaculture were lost, leaving many households penniless.
The province’s transportation system was severely damaged. Up to 7 national highways and 14 provincial roads were affected with hundreds of landslides and tens of thousands of cubic meters of rock and soil.
In particular, rural roads recorded more than 3,600 landslides, with the total volume of buried earth and rock reaching more than 5 million m³. Many bridges, water supply works, irrigation works and dikes were also severely damaged.
Floods swept mud into 10 hydroelectric plants, damaging many equipment, seriously affecting electricity production. More than 70,000 households lost power due to many broken and landslide power lines.

15 medical facilities, 12 schools were flooded, and 27 schools suffered landslides. A series of teaching and medical equipment were damaged. The telecommunications sector also recorded 687 BTS stations affected, causing widespread disruption of communications.
As of October 1, 150 villages and residential groups in 9 communes and wards were still isolated due to flooding and landslides. Of these, 141 residential areas were deeply flooded, 9 points were completely blocked, making rescue and relief work very difficult.
Many communes suffered heavy damage after storm No. 10 Bualoi
Van Ban Commune: Damage exceeds 37 billion VND
Van Ban Commune is one of the most severely affected localities. The floods have damaged 97 houses, of which 10 were destroyed by more than 70%. One person is missing, and nearly 100 households have been urgently evacuated.
Agricultural production was devastated with more than 255 hectares of crops damaged, hundreds of livestock and poultry swept away, and more than 4 hectares of aquatic products lost.
The traffic system collapsed at dozens of points, a 16m long bridge was washed away, many inter-commune roads were cut off. Two Suoi Chut hydroelectric plants were buried in mud. Total damage is estimated at over 37 billion VND.
Vo Lao Commune: Estimated damage of 22.5 billion VND
Vo Lao commune also recorded many serious damages. Nearly 50 houses were affected, many households had to be urgently evacuated. More than 64 hectares of rice, corn and vegetables were destroyed, 12 hectares of fish ponds were lost.

The transportation system was paralyzed with many landslides and two suspension bridges severely damaged. Schools and irrigation works were also affected. Total damage was about 22.5 billion VND.
Duong Quy Commune: Damage about 20 billion VND
In Duong Quy commune, floods damaged 24 houses, of which 23 collapsed completely. Nearly 300 hectares of rice and crops were destroyed or flooded.

National Highway 279 and many rural roads were eroded, causing traffic congestion. The Nam Cho culvert was severely damaged, and the water supply system was damaged, causing many households to lack clean water.
Several schools were also affected, with landslides posing a direct threat to students. Damage is estimated at around 20 billion VND.
Minh Luong Commune: Damage of 16.4 billion VND
Minh Luong Commune was forced to evacuate 1,700 people due to heavy rain and floods. 25 houses were affected, more than 25 hectares of agricultural land were damaged and thousands of livestock and poultry were swept away.

Traffic was seriously eroded, irrigation system was damaged, school roof was blown off.
Nam Xay Luong Hydropower Plant also suffered landslides. The total estimated damage was up to 16.4 billion VND.
Chieng Ken Commune: Damage of more than 8.5 billion VND
Chieng Ken commune has 64 households directly affected, many houses were eroded or deeply flooded.

More than 80 hectares of rice, corn and other crops were destroyed. 16 infrastructure works were severely damaged, including concrete roads, suspension bridges, and irrigation canals. Total damage was estimated at about 8.5 billion VND.
Nam Xe Commune: Damage of nearly 200 million VND
Nam Xe commune recorded less damage than other localities. One household was affected by a landslide, an inter-village road was blocked by a landslide of about 100 m³ of rock and soil. Total damage was estimated at about 191 million VND.

Authorities are urgently searching for three people missing from the previous incident.
Xuan Hoa Commune: Estimated damage of 2 billion VND
Xuan Hoa commune was directly affected by heavy rains and floods. Nearly 20 houses were damaged and 68 households had to be evacuated. Nearly 78 hectares of rice, corn, and vegetables were destroyed, and many roads were flooded and eroded.

A school had its slope collapsed right behind the classroom area. Total damage is about 2 billion VND.
Bat Xat Commune: Damage of more than 13 billion VND
Bat Xat commune was severely affected with 244 houses having their roofs blown off or having landslides. Nearly 137 hectares of rice, corn and other crops were destroyed.

Dozens of traffic points were damaged by landslides and many irrigation works were damaged. Total damage was estimated at over 13 billion VND.
Central Ward: Widespread flooding and landslides
In Trung Tam ward, floods swept away thousands of square meters of aquatic products, more than 1,400 poultry and many family properties.
Many infrastructure works such as embankments and bridges were severely damaged. This is one of the localities that need urgent support to overcome the damage.

Luc Yen Commune: Damage of more than 3.3 billion VND
Storms and heavy rains devastated more than 140 hectares of rice, corn, and vegetables in Luc Yen commune. Several roads were eroded and bridges collapsed, isolating many households. The total damage was estimated at over 3.3 billion VND.
