(Baonghean.vn) -This morning (December 28), in Vinh City, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Management Board of Nghe An Agricultural Science and Technology Project held a conference to evaluate the results of the Nghe An Agricultural Science and Technology Project in the period 2007-2012. Attending the conference were representatives of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Department of Planning and Investment, the Department of Finance; representatives of districts, communes, and people participating in the project.
The Agricultural Science and Technology Project is implemented on the basis of the Agreement signed between Vietnam and the United States.

In our province, the project was implemented in 19 communes in 12 districts (communes with a poverty rate of 30% or more). For subcomponent 1, the project organized 17 training courses with 405 provincial-level agricultural extension trainees and 383 courses with 9,504 commune-level agricultural extension trainees. In addition, the project also improved equipment for agricultural extension stations and organized 30 courses with 883 trainees on capacity building for agricultural extension service providers. For subcomponent 2, the project organized 3 workshops to identify priorities for field-based research trials, with the participation of 86 people. The organization signed 10 field-based research trial models; Signed 143 agricultural extension contracts with a total cost of more than 20.8 billion VND. The total number of households participating in the project is 6,081 with 41,111 beneficiaries.
After 5 years of implementing the project, the total number of households escaping poverty in the province is 1,997/5,117 participating households, accounting for 39%; Improving income for poor households, increasing economic efficiency by 15-20%; productivity and output of crops and livestock increased by 20-25%, increasing the proportion of agricultural production value in the total income of the locality. In addition, the project also increased the participation of people, especially ethnic minorities, creating jobs for people, more than 17,126 people participated in technical training courses, contributing to changing awareness, eliminating backward production practices...
However, in the process of project implementation, some shortcomings and limitations have been revealed, such as the limited mobilization of participation from private companies and social organizations to implement the models; The proportion between agricultural extension contracts on livestock and crop cultivation is not balanced; The scale of pilot research contracts is small and the consumption of products from the model for the people still faces many difficulties; the ability to replicate successfully implemented agricultural extension models in the area is limited...
