The new government of Mr. Assad was established in the context that there is only one month left until the time when this leader must leave according to the "ultimatum" of US Secretary of State John Kerry.

According to the official Syrian News Agency SANA, decree No. 203 states that the head of the new government is Prime Minister Imad Khamis, and the ministers are mainly still figures from the previous government.

Earlier, on June 22, President Bashar al-Assad appointed Electricity Minister Imad Khamis as the new Prime Minister and assigned him to form a new government. The change came two months after Mr. Assad's Baath Party and its allies won a majority of seats in the general election last April.

The new government will be the sixth under Mr. Assad. The most recent government was formed in August 2014, after Mr. Assad was re-elected.

Last April, Syria's parliamentary elections were held in government-controlled areas, with 3,500 candidates running for 250 seats. According to the results announced by the Syrian Election Commission, the ruling Baath Party and its allies in the "National Unity" coalition won a big victory with a total of 200 seats./.
