Chilean President to pay State visit to Vietnam

The President of the Republic of Chile will pay a two-day state visit to Vietnam at the invitation of President Tran Dai Quang.

Ms. Michelle Bachelet Jeria,President of the Republic of Chile,will pay a State visit to Vietnam from November 8 to 9.invitation of President Tran Dai Quang,The Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced today.

The President's visitMichelle Bachelet Jeria, 66, took placeon the occasion of her and leaders of APEC member economies attending the APEC Summit held in Da Nang from November 6 to 11.

Mrs. Michelle Bachelet Jeria isPresident of Chile from 2014 to 2018. She took office on March 11, 2014.

Vietnam and Chile have had in recent yearsmany visits at all levels,signed many cooperation documents including the Economic and Trade Cooperation Agreement, the Visa Exemption Agreement for Diplomatic, Official and Ordinary Passports, especially the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) which took effect fromJanuary 1, 2014.

Two-way trade relations in 2016 reached 1.03 billion USD. Vietnam had a trade surplus with Chile of 740.4 million USD, mainly light industrial products and imported seafood, vegetables, animal and vegetable oils and fats, wood and wood products, iron and steel, fish meal for animal feed, wine...

Vietnam and Chile maintain good coordination and cooperation at international organizations and multilateral forums, including the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) and the Forum for East Asia - Latin America Cooperation (FEALAC) frameworks...

Chile supports Vietnam to become a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the 2008-2009 term, and cooperates and assists Vietnam in hosting APEC 2006.Vietnam supports Chile's candidacy for the United Nations Human Rights Council for the 2008-2010 term.
