On October 5, the Indonesian President was forced to walk 3km in hot weather to attend a military parade.

According to Kompas, the parade to celebrate the 72nd anniversary of the founding of the Indonesian Army is scheduled to take place at 8:00 a.m. on October 5 in Cilegon, about 2.5 hours drive from Jakarta.

However, due to traffic jams, President Joko Widodo and senior Indonesian government officials were unable to arrive at the parade on time.

After about 30 minutes of waiting, Mr. Widodo decided to get out of the car and walk, presidential bodyguard Ili Dasili said in a statement.

Images online show the Indonesian President walking down the street with security personnel, amid cheers from many people.

The President was also accompanied by National Police Chief Tito Karnavian and Defense Minister Ryamizard Ryacudu.

President Joko Widodo finally arrived at the ceremony at 8:40 a.m. the same day.
