According to VNA correspondent in Eastern Europe, on the evening of April 8 (early morning of April 9 Hanoi time), the Montenegro State Election Commission announced the results of the new presidential election of this Republic with two candidates including incumbent President Filip Vujanovic re-elected with 51.2% of the votes while veteran diplomat Miodrag Lekic won 48.8% of the votes.

The Montenegrin Election Commission confirmed that nearly 60% of the country's 115,000 voters went to the polls on April 7. The election results are not far from domestic and international public opinion because during his 10 years as head of state of Montenegro, Mr. Vujanovic has always won great support from the people of this Republic in implementing the policy of building a democratic Montenegro, affiliated with the European Union (EU) and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).

Immediately after the above results were announced, Montenegro's Prime Minister and Chairman of the ruling Social Democratic Party, Mr. Milo Jukanovic, congratulated Mr. Vujanovic on his re-election as the new president and affirmed that his victory will contribute to the development of the democratic and stable Republic of Montenegro on the path of association with the EU and NATO./.
