US President Joe Biden begins visit to Vietnam at the invitation of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong
US President Joe Biden will begin a state visit to Vietnam at the invitation of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong. During the two-day visit, the US President will meet with senior Vietnamese leaders and participate in a number of activities.
Accompanying US President Joe Biden on his visit to Vietnam today (September 10) are: Secretary of State Antony Blinken; US Ambassador to Vietnam Marc Knapper; National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan; Special Envoy for Climate to the President John Kerry; Assistant to the President, Deputy National Security Advisor John Finer; Deputy Assistant to the President, Special Coordinator of the National Security Council Kurt Campbell; Assistant Secretary of State Daniel Kritenbrink; Special Advisor to the President, Senior Director of the National Security Council Mira Rapp-Hooper; Special Advisor to the President, Senior Director of the National Security Council Tarun Chhabra.
Vietnamese Ambassador to the US Nguyen Quoc Dung said that President Joe Biden will have important talks and meetings with General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and senior leaders of the Party and State; as well as a schedule of activities with businesses and people.

The two sides will review the comprehensive partnership in all fields and set out orientations for the relationship in the coming time, focusing on cooperation in science and technology, economics, trade and investment, people-to-people exchange, and overcoming the consequences of war.
The two sides also plan to jointly organize activities to exchange war relics and meet technology businesses. On this occasion, the two sides are expected to sign many important economic agreements and contracts that could be worth billions of dollars.
In a statement released ahead of the US President’s visit to Vietnam, the White House said that Mr. Joe Biden and Vietnamese leaders will “explore opportunities to promote growth for Vietnam’s technology- and innovation-driven economy.” The Vietnamese government is currently interested in the areas of green economic development, digital economy, and high-tech application in production.
Ambassador Nguyen Quoc Dung said that President Biden's visit will promote cooperation between Vietnam and the US in these areas in three major directions.
Firstly, the two sides will more clearly define cooperation priorities in related fields such as high technology, artificial intelligence, telecommunications networks, etc. Secondly, the two sides are expected to launch a number of specific initiatives and cooperation mechanisms on semiconductors and high-tech human resource training. Thirdly, during the visit, agencies and businesses of both sides will sign a number of memorandums of understanding and agreements, creating a foundation to help promote Vietnam's stronger development in green economy, digital economy and high technology.
In a statement before the visit, the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the Vietnam-US relationship has continued to develop positively in recent times, on all three levels: bilateral, regional and international, with many remarkable developments and a number of specific results, contributing to the celebration of the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Comprehensive Partnership framework.
During the exchanges, the US side consistently affirmed its commitment to supporting a “strong, independent, self-reliant and prosperous” Vietnam; continuing to appreciate Vietnam’s role and attach importance to the bilateral relationship. The US expressed its desire to continue promoting the development of relations on the basis of respect for each other’s independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity and political institutions, aiming to elevate the relationship when conditions are suitable.
