(Baonghean.vn)- Russian President Vladimir Putin warned that his country reserves the right to use cluster bombs and munitions in response to Ukraine's use of these weapons.

"Russia has enough reserves of various types of bombs, cluster munitions, different types. So far we have not done anything, we have not used them, and we have no such need, although there was a certain shortage of ammunition at a certain point. But we did not do this," the President said in an interview with the "Moscow. Kremlin. Putin" program on the Rossiya-1 TV channel.

"But of course, if they (cluster munitions) are used against us, we reserve the right to act in kind," the president said. Putin expressed his belief that supplying cluster munitions to Ukraine and using them should be considered a crime. "As for cluster munitions, the US administration through its staff expressed its position on these munitions some time ago, when the use of cluster munitions was recognized as a crime by the Washington administration. So, I think, this is the way to go."

President Putin believes that the US is supplying cluster munitions to Ukraine due to a general shortage of ammunition. "The US is doing this (providing cluster munitions to Ukraine) not out of kindness, but because they lack ammunition in general," the President said. He recalled that "the Ukrainian army spends up to 5,000-6,000 155mm artillery shells per day of combat, while the US produces 15,000 per month." "They are short and Europe does not have enough (ammunition)," Putin said. "So they have found nothing better than to propose using cluster munitions," he concluded./.
