President Trump: Without intervention, Los Angeles would have burned to the ground due to riots

According to RIA Novosti on June 11, US President Donald Trump said that without his intervention, Los Angeles could have been burned down due to protests and riots in California related to his immigration policy.

“If we didn’t do this, Los Angeles would be burning down right now, just like the homes here burned down just a few months ago. And the only flag of victory on the streets of Los Angeles would be the American flag,” President Donald Trump told troops and veterans at Fort Bragg in North Carolina on June 10.

Riots broke out in Los Angeles on June 7 over raids on illegal immigrants. Clashes with protesters broke out amid reports of potential cuts to federal funding for California.

Police began using tear gas and flash grenades against protesters. The National Guard was sent to the city, California authorities said. Democrats opposed the decision. This was the first time in recent decades that the US president had called up the National Guard without the request or consent of the state.

Protesters in Los Angeles began setting up barricades and clashing. Protests were also held in the Texas capital, Austin, where police dispersed the demonstration with flares, noise, and tear gas.
