Ukrainian President fires 30 officials under 'purge law'

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has fired 30 heads of local governments under a new law on government purges passed by the Ukrainian parliament.

The above information was reported by the press center of the Office of the President of Ukraine on October 30.

The list of dismissed officials includes eight heads of district administrations in the Donetsk region, seven others in the Dnipropetrovsk region, seven in Zaporizhye, four in Odessa, two in Sumy, one in Rivne and one in Kharkiv.

On October 29, President Poroshenko also fired Mr. Valery Baranov, governor of Zaporizhye region, and Mr. Roman Vanzuryak, head of Chernivtsy region.

Earlier, the Ukrainian Ministry of Justice published a list of 179 former officials "purged" under the new law on its website.

On September 16, the Ukrainian Parliament passed a law on “government cleansing” or the “Lustration Act”. The subjects of the “Lustration Act” are all civil servants and employees of local government agencies.
