Ukrainian President Zelensky has criticized the US for not speeding up the delivery of heavy tanks to Ukraine. He said that if the US Abrams tanks arrive in August, it will be too late.

In an interview with Sky News on January 27, the Ukrainian leader also warned that Kiev was not satisfied with the small number of tanks supplied from the West.

Zelensky made the comments after the US on January 26 promised to provide Ukraine with 31 M1 Abrams tanks, but cautiously said that the delivery could take several months or more. The White House explained that it wanted to let the defense industry produce more of these tanks instead of taking them directly from the US arsenal.

President Zelensky complained that if US-made tanks arrived in August it would be “too late”. He also said firmly that a handful of tanks “will not make a difference on the battlefield”.

The Ukrainian leader said Kiev now needs 300-500 tanks to be able to launch a counterattack on Russia.

According to Mr. Zelensky, there are currently a total of 12 countries committed to supporting the construction of Ukraine's armored forces. These countries include the US, Germany, the UK, Poland, Canada, Spain, Norway and the Netherlands.

Meanwhile, Kremlin spokesman Peskov warned that German and American tanks would not change the outcome of the Ukraine conflict and would also burn like the weapons the West has provided to Ukraine./.
