Secretary-General Ban Ki Moon speaks at the Vietnamese National Assembly
On the afternoon of May 23, UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon visited and spoke at the Vietnamese National Assembly session.
Speaking at Ba Dinh Hall, UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon expressed his honor to meet with a large number of Vietnamese National Assembly deputies; he was happy and appreciated that the Vietnamese National Assembly had discussed many issues for sustainable development goals as well as climate change issues.
The UN Secretary-General expressed strong confidence in National Assembly deputies - those who represent the people and turn the functions of the National Assembly into practical and concrete activities.

The UN Secretary-General also said that he had many quality meetings with senior Vietnamese leaders during his visit and delivered the message: "Vietnam and the UN are natural partners, I am here to strengthen our cooperation for tomorrow."
“This is my second visit to Vietnam as UN Secretary-General. Every time I visit Vietnam, I am deeply impressed by the achievements that Vietnam has made. Vietnam is showing the world that a country that faced many difficulties during the war is developing strongly in the future,” Secretary-General Ban Ki Moon emphasized.
Mr. Ban-Ki-Moon expressed his expectation for Vietnam's participation and practical contributions to the upcoming global climate change conference.
“If we look back, Vietnam is a leading country in the millennium development goals, this allows the UN to affirm to the world how effectively and with what good results Vietnam has achieved” – the UN Secretary General said and informed that on the morning of May 23, he was honored to attend the ribbon-cutting ceremony to inaugurate the Green UN House, this is a symbol for other UN headquarters around the world to follow.
Mr. Ban-Ki-Moon assessed that, looking to the future, Vietnam has a lot of experience, the Vietnamese people are very talented, and will be the leaders in implementing sustainable development goals.

According to Mr. Ban-Ki-Moon, the world is currently facing great threats to peace, security as well as great humanitarian challenges. The UN is called upon more than ever to respond to these challenges.
More and more UN peacekeepers are deployed to different parts of the world. To overcome these challenges, there needs to be global solidarity, standing together as a common family. Vietnam’s participation in UN peacekeeping operations perfectly demonstrates this spirit.
“I would like to bow to the brave Vietnamese people who left their families to help the miserable people of South Africa. Before meeting with the National Assembly members today, I also attended a meeting of the Vietnamese peacekeeping organization, I understand your spirit and commitment in this field. I would like to commend the Vietnamese Government for such commitments. I look forward to Vietnam continuing to cooperate with the United Nations to create a better world for all of us,” said Mr. Ban Ki Moon.
The Chairman of the Vietnamese National Assembly thanked the UN Secretary General for his kind words towards the country and people of Vietnam, and for the efforts of the Vietnamese Government and people in the process of striving to achieve the Millennium Development Goals; contributing to the peace and prosperity of the Vietnamese people and people of the world.

The Vietnamese National Assembly arose from the desire to respect human rights, national independence, and the independence and freedom of a country, and from there actively and proactively participated in the UN and the Inter-Parliamentary Union organizations of the world and the region. Vietnam recently successfully organized the 132nd IPU Congress with many impressions, especially the Hanoi Declaration on the Millennium Development Goals - turning words into actions.
Welcoming the comments of the UN Secretary General at the National Assembly forum, Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung emphasized that this is a very important historical event in the relationship between the Vietnamese people, between the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and the UN.
Vietnam will do its best, with the responsibility of an independent, unified, free, democratic country striving for prosperity, so that its people can enjoy a happy life, and fulfill the responsibilities of Vietnam and the Vietnamese National Assembly to the United Nations.
“Your opinions to senior Vietnamese leaders on complying with international law and maintaining peace in the East Sea, a region of great importance, are strong support for Vietnam in the current period,” said the National Assembly Chairman.
