Toyota recalls 43,037 Innova, Fortuner and Hilux vehicles
On May 12, the Competition Management Department, Ministry of Industry and Trade announced a recall campaign for some Innova, Fortuner and Hilux vehicles to inspect and replace the spiral cable assembly of the driver's airbag.
Specifically, the Competition Management Department said that according to a report from Toyota Vietnam Company, in the above car lines, 37,610 Innova G cars and 2,631 Innova V cars have a problem with the cable in the spiral cable assembly of the airbag (driver's side) that can rub against the guide part when steering, causing scratches on the cable surface.

This failure could result in an open circuit, resulting in a loss of communication between the control unit and the driver’s airbag. If this connection is lost, the airbag warning light will illuminate and the driver’s airbag may not deploy in a severe frontal collision, increasing the risk of injury to the driver.
Notably, the Fortuner G line also has 2,531 vehicles, the Hilux E line has 265 vehicles with the above problem. In total, according to the Competition Management Department, Toyota Vietnam Company will have to recall and repair up to 43,037 vehicles.
Toyota VN confirmed that other vehicle lines are not affected, including Innova J: not equipped with driver's side airbag; Fortuner V, Hilux G, Corolla, Vios, Camry, Yaris, Land Cruiser Prado: not installed with the same type of cable as the affected vehicles (Innova G, Innova V, Fortuner G, Hilux E) as mentioned.
Toyota VN confirms that it will inspect and replace free of charge the entire spiral cable assembly of the driver's side airbag in the above mentioned area, including vehicles manufactured and distributed by Toyota VN.
For vehicles not imported and distributed by Toyota VN, upon request from the vehicle owner, Toyota VN will assist in contacting Toyota Corporation in Japan to obtain information. After receiving the consent and confirmation of the corporation, TMV will conduct inspection and replace the driver's airbag spiral cable assembly free of charge for the customer.
The Competition Management Department said the recall and repair campaign will be carried out at all Toyota authorized dealers/service stations in Vietnam. The campaign is expected to start on May 30, 2014 and last indefinitely.
The inspection and replacement will take about 1 hour. The Competition Management Department recommends that customers check the above information to have their vehicles inspected and take measures to protect their rights.
