Vinh City: Responding to the Action Month for Drug Prevention and Control in 2014

(Baonghean.vn) -On the morning of June 6, at Vinh City Police, the Steering Committee for Crime Prevention - AIDS Prevention - Drug and Prostitution Prevention of Vinh City held a ceremony to launch a high-profile campaign to crack down on drug-related crimes in response to the Month of Action for Drug Prevention and Control (June 2014), International Day - National Day for Drug Prevention and Control 2014.

In recent times, the Steering Committee for Drug Prevention and Control of Nghe An province has directed the provincial agencies, departments, branches and organizations to effectively implement the work of preventing and combating drug evils, significantly reducing the number of drug addicts; controlling and curbing the increase in drug crimes in the community; dismantling many drug trafficking and transportation lines, destroying complex drug and prostitution hotspots... In the first 6 months of 2014, the city's functional forces discovered, fought and arrested 124 cases, 136 drug criminals, of which 6 illegal drug trafficking lines, 32 retail points, successfully breaking 6 special cases; organizing compulsory drug rehabilitation for more than 34 addicts, community drug rehabilitation for 69 addicts... The above results have contributed to preventing the occurrence of complex "hot spots" of drugs, gradually stabilizing the security and order situation in the city.

To improve the effectiveness of the campaign, all levels and sectors have promoted propaganda and legal education to raise awareness among officials, civil servants and employees on drug prevention and control; promoted the mass movement to prevent and control drugs, the movement to build cultural agencies and units, organized many cultural and sports activities, pushed back drugs and visited and encouraged drug addicts to help them overcome difficulties and stabilize their lives.

After the rally, representatives of agencies and trade union organizations in the province and city marched on the main streets of Vinh City in response to the Month of Action against Drugs.
