Vinh City: Pollution from garbage collection points
(Baonghean) -Vinh City has become a type I urban area, which means that many important criteria such as: facilities and infrastructure must be completed; people's lives must be improved... and especially environmental sanitation must be ensured. However, currently, due to many different reasons, environmental sanitation is a difficult problem, not only the problem of landfills causing pollution, but pollution also occurs right at the garbage collection point.
Currently, on all the streets in Vinh City, there are garbage collection points, which are the points where the Urban Environment Company places garbage carts for people to throw garbage and only collects it at the end of the day (around 11pm). But sometimes the collection point is just an empty lot on the side of the road, on the sidewalk where people around conveniently throw it away, gradually becoming accustomed to it and becoming an involuntary garbage collection point without anyone knowing. However, the core problem here is that people throw garbage at any time, regardless of day or night, causing the garbage cart parking points or garbage collection points to become mini landfills right in the heart of the city, causing extremely serious environmental pollution.
Garbage trucks line up in front of Le Mao Primary School...
It is not difficult to name the garbage collection points that cause environmental pollution in the city today. Right on Le Hong Phong Street, opposite the Provincial Forest Protection Department, every day there are always more than 10 carts parked there (this is not necessarily an intentional act for people to dump garbage), and the garbage gradually fills up, overflowing onto the sidewalk, the leachate leaks everywhere, creating flies and stinking, seriously affecting the lives and activities of the people. Or like in front of Le Mao Primary School, Dinh Cong Trang Street, garbage is gathered in mounds on carts and spreads onto the sidewalk, the road, giving off a foul smell, making students, people around here, as well as parents picking up and dropping off their children extremely upset....
It can be seen that one of the main reasons leading to this situation is that the city's current waste collection and treatment infrastructure system is not yet complete, and the conflicts between people living around Nghi Yen landfill (the city's new landfill) and the authorities have not been thoroughly resolved. For this reason, since the beginning of the year, Vinh City has had to deal with garbage backlogs many times, causing environmental pollution.
However, it must also be seen that the unintentional self-designation of garbage collection points by the City Urban Environment Company is also a cause of pollution. If garbage collection takes place according to a prescribed time frame, according to a separate command (maybe a gong, a bell, like in many other cities), and there are no carts placed everywhere as is currently the case, this situation will certainly be limited, and the habit of dumping garbage on time will be established by the people. Ms. Nguyen Thi Lan (Dinh Cong Trang street) said: "Environmental pollution does not only arise from garbage collection vehicles but also from spontaneous piles of garbage on the sidewalk thrown by some people lacking awareness. Every time the garbage truck operates, the stench blows into the house, especially when the weather is hot and sunny, it is unbearable. Not only that, the black leachate keeps flowing onto the street...".
The sidewalk on Le Hong Phong Street (opposite Nghe An Forest Rangers) has long been turned into an open-air landfill.
Not only that, the poor awareness of garbage collectors is also a reason why garbage at collection points is polluted and even more messy. Because at garbage collection points, these people often freely search and then turn around and leave, leaving piles of trash scattered everywhere. An urban environmental company worker was upset: There are many days when they have just finished cleaning up and are waiting for the truck to come pick it up, but when they come back, the trash on the cart has been dug up and dumped all over the sidewalk and road...
To ensure environmental hygiene in residential areas, in addition to the need for authorities to perform their duties well, mass organizations in the block need to propagate and mobilize people to raise awareness of environmental protection, both to ensure their own health and to contribute to cleaning and beautifying the city.
