According to SCMP, the guide dog named Qiaoqiao belongs to Tian Fengbo, a man who runs a massage parlor in Shunyi District, Beijing, China. Security cameras recorded the theft on February 21.Someone grabbed it and put it in a truck with a Hebei province license plate.
Tian's family and friends searched everywhere for Qiaoqiao but could not find her. On the evening of February 23, about 35 hours after being arrested, Qiaoqiao was returned to the massage parlor, uninjured. There was a note on her back that read "Please forgive me."
Another dog theft occurred on the same day in Beijing using a similar method. Police recently arrested four people from Hebei province on suspicion of stealing more than 100 dogs.
Police said the dogs were sold to middlemen or killed for their meat, which fetches about $2.50 a kilogram. Dog meat is a delicacy in some parts of China and Asia.
