Accordingly, this company was fined 320 million VND for violating the law of not having an environmental license for a project/facility that is subject to an environmental license according to regulations under the licensing authority of the Provincial People's Committee. Specifically, the company put the high-tech pig farming complex in Nghi Cong Nam commune into operation without an environmental license, as stipulated in Point C, Clause 3, Article 14 of Decree No. 45/2022/ND-CP dated July 7, 2022 of the Government regulating administrative sanctions for violations in the field of environmental protection.
In addition to the fine, the Provincial People's Committee also decided to suspend the operation of the source of waste (pig farming) without an environmental license of the breeding facility for 4.5 months. The Nghe An Provincial People's Committee also assigned the Department of Natural Resources and Environment to implement measures to ensure the collection of sufficient fines; monitor, urge and inspect the implementation of additional penalties according to regulations.
According to the reporter's investigation, this pig farm, although not having an environmental license, has been in operation since the end of 2021. At one point, the farm raised more than 30,000 pigs.
However, after only a short time of operation, this pig farm has received backlash from the people of Nghi Cong Nam and Nghi Cong Bac communes. People said that the waste from the pig farm has polluted the environment, especially when this pig farm is located at the foot of the mountain, right above Nghi Cong Lake. Wastewater from the pig farm flows into a small dam, then flows down to Nghi Cong Lake. Not only are people concerned about the waste source, they also complain about the stench coming from the pig farm.
