Miss Universe Vietnam tried on 6 outfits before choosing the most impressive design for Miss Universe 2018.

Episode 3 of H'Hen Nie's 'Road to Miss Universe' program just aired on the evening of October 21, revealing the first images of 6 national costumes. The contestants had time to make and edit the products to suit Miss H'Hen Nie. The judging criteria required the costumes to ensure the following factors: uniqueness, creativity, performance art and conveying a positive message about Vietnamese culture to international friends.

Contestant Pham Phuoc Dien's 'Banh Mi' costume made a strong impression from the first days of submitting the application because it was the first time a Vietnamese dish was created into a national costume. Judge - designer Thuan Viet highly appreciated the creation of a loaf of bread that looked realistic when finished. The minus point of this costume was the two straps that were not designed delicately and the heavy frame that made H'Hen hunchback when moving.

'Hoa dang sac Viet' by the duo Nguyen Vu Hung - Thach Thanh Dat was edited with Ede cultural inspiration after H'Hen Nie was crowned. The lantern-shaped dress required high processing techniques and took a lot of time to process because both contestants were not professional designers.

Designer Thuan Viet suggested that the back of the skirt should be hand-woven, bringing high aesthetic effect and adjusting the skirt to hug H'Hen's figure better.

'Ngu ho' by Nguyen Dang Thanh Nhan is inspired by the Five Tigers worship painting of the Hang Trong painting line (Hanoi) - a long-standing Vietnamese folk painting line. The highlight of the costume is the elaborate and delicate hand-embroidered tiger image and the overall harmonious color scheme.

Sending a message of strength and bravery like the Five Tigers, contestant Thanh Nhan wants to highlight the personality of Miss H'Hen Nie - a modern, powerful and traditional woman.

Contestant Pham Minh Phuc used the image of the Nguyen Dynasty dragon as the main theme for 'Feminism'. The dragon symbolizes strength, power and curves on the background of the traditional Northern four-panel dress and conical hat.

All accessories are handmade by the contestant.

Bringing Hoi An culture into his costume with lanterns and the Japanese Covered Bridge, contestant Nguyen Dinh Thuan had the most 'terrifying' design in the Top 6. 'Old Town' is predominantly black, evoking the mystery, antiquity and quietness that is true to Hoi An's nighttime atmosphere.

Thanks to the use of suitable materials, the outfit is still light, allowing H'Hen to move comfortably. Judge Thuan Viet highly appreciated the meaning of the outfit and the splendor that ensured it would not be overshadowed when standing next to other countries.

Inspired by the traditional Mid-Autumn lantern, contestant Nguyen Duc Hai used a golden yếm dress symbolizing the moon, honoring the gentle beauty of Vietnamese women.

Designer Thuan Viet suggested changing the size of the lantern to reduce the weight on H'Hen. The winning costume will be based on 60% of the judges' score and 40% of the audience's vote. Voting will be from October 21 to November 5.
