Painting by famous Vietnamese artist sets record price of 8 billion VND
At an auction held by Christie's International in Hong Kong on May 25, the painting "The Rice Seller" by famous painter Nguyen Phan Chanh was sold for 3.03 million HK dollars (more than 8 billion VND).
This is considered a record price for a painting by a Vietnamese artist.
The painting by famous artist Nguyen Phan Chanh, called La Marchand de Riz (The Rice Seller), painted in 1932, was originally valued at only 75 USD.

According to Bloomberg, the painting was priced so low because people mistakenly thought it was by an apprentice Chinese artist. However, after being re-examined by experts, many people realized the true value of the 1932 painting.
According to art expert Jean Francois Hubert, the painting “The Rice Seller” is a perfect work. The painting’s frame was framed by expert Gardin in Paris (France) and was exhibited in the city of Naples (Italy) in 1934.
Previously, the painting by a Vietnamese artist that was said to set a record price belonged to the famous painter Le Pho. At a Sotheby's auction (Hong Kong), the painting by artist Le Pho was sold for 2.9 million Hong Kong dollars.
