(Baonghen.vn) - On the morning of June 17, Brigade 146 - Naval Region 4 Command coordinated with the People's Committee of Vinh Thanh commune, Yen Thanh district to organize a ceremony to award the "Fatherland's gratitude" certificate for the cause of protecting the sovereignty of the Fatherland's sea and islands to martyr Phan Van Hanh.

Major Nguyen Van Ty - Head of the Cryptography Department of Brigade 146 - Naval Region 4 Command; representatives of district-level departments and organizations; Vinh Thanh commune and a large number of people and relatives of martyrs attended the ceremony.

Martyr Phan Van Hanh was born on October 15, 1982, in a farming family in a rural area with a rich tradition of patriotism and revolution. Following the sacred call of the Fatherland, in March 2002, he enlisted in Battalion 865, Brigade 126 of the Navy.

In July 2002, after graduating, he was assigned to work at Station 94, Technical Logistics Support Base 696 - Naval Region 2, promoted from Second Lieutenant to Lieutenant of professional military, as a shore equipment employee. In May 2013, he was assigned to Battalion 3 - Brigade 146 - Naval Region 4.

In August 2013, he was assigned to work at Toc Tan C Island, Truong Sa archipelago. On January 17, 2014, while on duty, he encountered unfavorable weather, strong winds, and large waves. Unfortunately, he was swept away by the water. Although he was rescued by his teammates, he died of drowning at 11:30 a.m. the same day. The unit coordinated with his family to bring him back to his hometown for burial. At the same time, they completed the procedures and documents to request the Party, State, and Government to recognize the contributions of comrade Phan Van Hanh.

On March 27, 2015, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung signed Decision No. 397 on recognizing and granting the "Fatherland's Gratitude" certificate to Martyr Phan Van Hanh.At the ceremony, authorized by the President and Prime Minister, Mr. Thai Huy Hoang - Chairman of Vinh Thanh Commune People's Committee awarded the "Fatherland's Gratitude" certificate to the martyr's family members.

Speaking at the ceremony, Major Nguyen Van Ty - Head of the Cipher Department of Brigade 146 - Naval Region 4 Command and leaders of Vinh Thanh commune expressed their deep gratitude for the martyrs' sacrifices for the cause of building and defending the Fatherland.
