The Council of the 9th National Press Awards 2014 said that this year, the Council received more than 1,700 entries from 136 units and individuals, of which 1,462 entries were eligible to participate in the award; compared to last year, the number of entries decreased (1,665 entries).

Vice President of the Vietnam Journalists Association Tran Gia Thai said that the number of entries this year decreased partly due to the merger and transfer of a number of newspapers and magazines belonging to ministries and sectors.

Of the 1,462 works eligible for the award, in the field of print journalism, there are 307 works in the news, reflection, and interview categories; 116 works in editorials, comments, and treatises; and 351 works in reports, investigative reports, journalistic reports, and notes.

In the field of photojournalism, there were 103 works in the categories of single photos, photo groups, and photo reports. In the field of radio, there were a total of 130 works participating in the categories of news, reflection articles, interviews, comments, monographs, talk shows, general radio specials, and reports, investigative reports, and memoirs; in which the works in the categories of reports, investigative reports, and radio memoirs increased compared to last year.

In the field of television, there are 209 works in the news, reportage, and documentary genres; 24 works in the commentary, exchange, and discussion genres; and 98 works in television documentaries.

In the field of electronic newspapers this year, the number of works in the genres of news, reflections, interviews, and comments increased with 108 works; the genres of reportage, investigative reportage, journalistic notes, and notes had 42 works.

To judge the preliminary round, the 9th National Press Awards Council in 2014 decided to establish a preliminary judging council consisting of 70 members chaired by Vice President of the Vietnam Journalists Association Tran Gia Thai. From April 15 to May 4, the preliminary judging council consisting of 10 sub-committees will judge and evaluate 11 categories of awards in various types of journalism.

After judging and evaluating all entries, the Preliminary Jury is responsible for selecting and recommending entries for the final round according to each type of award. Entries are evaluated using a 10-point scale.

The official score of each work is the average of the total scores that the members of each sub-committee give to that work. The members of the preliminary judging panel do not give their own scores. The list of works that have entered the final round is arranged in order from highest to lowest according to the official score.

The final round of the 2014 National Press Awards is scheduled to open on May 16. The 9th National Press Awards 2014 will take place on the occasion of the Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day on June 21 as usual./.
