Gratitude to those who planted sovereignty markers over Hoang Sa

On the morning of May 4, at An Vinh communal house, Ly Son island district, Quang Ngai province, clans on Ly Son island held a ceremony to commemorate Hoang Sa soldiers to show gratitude to those who planted territorial markers and protected the country's sovereignty.

The Hoang Sa soldiers' memorial ceremony is usually held on the 15th and 16th of the third lunar month, and is conducted by the ancestors and descendants of the Ly Son island. The opening ceremony is the ceremony of announcing and welcoming the gods held at An Vinh communal house. This is a ritual to invite the souls of Hoang Sa soldiers to attend the ceremony.

As the sun rose, the procession of the souls of the brave soldiers in the Hoang Sa team, which also managed Bac Hai, was held from the place of worship, the spirit temple, to An Vinh village communal house. This communal house was where hundreds of years ago, before leaving for Hoang Sa and Truong Sa, the soldiers gathered here to worship. Fishing boats, spirit tablets recording the names and titles of each militiaman, along with the items that the Hoang Sa soldiers brought on the boat.

The ceremony to commemorate the Hoang Sa soldiers was restored with 5 fishing boat models along with utensils, life-saving effigies and 30 tablets with the names and positions of the soldiers who served in the Hoang Sa in the past. Thereby, it recreates and depicts the vivid image of the ceremony to commemorate the Hoang Sa soldiers from hundreds of years ago, affirming national sovereignty over the two archipelagos of Hoang Sa and Truong Sa.

Many folk songs in the funeral oration are also words of gratitude to the soldiers of Hoang Sa and Truong Sa who sacrificed their lives for the great cause. This is a ritual that has existed for hundreds of years among the residents of Ly Son island, to show gratitude to the militiamen of the Hoang Sa team who, following the king's orders, crossed the waves to erect stele and plant markers to affirm the country's sovereignty over the two archipelagos of Hoang Sa and Truong Sa. The ceremony attracted thousands of people and tourists from inside and outside the province to participate.

The ceremony took place in a solemn atmosphere with the respect of today's descendants for the merits of their ancestors in protecting and building the country's borders. Through the ceremony, the descendants were educated about the meaning of the Hoang Sa Soldiers' Commemoration Ceremony, about the indomitable spirit of their ancestors for their homeland; so that the descendants could better understand the Hoang Sa Militia in the work of protecting the sovereignty of the sea and islands of the Fatherland.
