After Nghe An Newspaper published an article reporting that about 30 infected buffaloes had died (since early August 2011) due to anthrax in Khe Lan and Na Nen villages, Chau Hanh commune (Quy Chau), Nghe An Province Veterinary Department directly directed the functional agencies in Quy Chau district and Chau Hanh commune to urgently deploy measures to contain the epidemic.
In the immediate future, disinfectants will be sprayed on 100% of buffalo and cow raising households in 2 villages: Khe Lan, Na Xen and some neighboring villages. The District Veterinary Station together with the Commune People's Committee requires all households raising buffalo in the forest to bring their buffaloes back to their homes for easy vaccination and monitoring, quickly detecting sick buffaloes and cows; and destroying all dead and seriously ill buffaloes.
Veterinary quarantine station in Na Xen village (Quy Chau)
The Veterinary Department and the commune authorities have established two veterinary quarantine points (at the beginning of Na Xen village and the end of Khe Lan village) and one mobile inspection team to detect cases of selling, slaughtering, and trading buffalo and cows in the epidemic area. Organized a meeting for people to sign a commitment to 3 nos (no buying, selling, slaughtering, transporting) buffaloes with serious diseases, dead buffaloes. At the same time, Quy Chau also announced an epidemic of anthrax in buffalo herds in the district and directed the authorities to implement measures to control and suppress the epidemic.
According to the Veterinary Department, the septicemia epidemic in the buffalo and cow herd in Quy Chau is at risk of spreading very quickly and is difficult to control due to the practice of raising buffalo and cows freely. Currently, in addition to the number of buffaloes that died in Khe Lan and Na Xen villages, previously, in Chau Nga and Chau Hoan communes, 68 buffaloes died from septicemia, bringing the total number of buffaloes that died in Quy Chau district to nearly 100.
