Implementing the Vietnam-Laos Solidarity and Friendship Year 2012
On February 6, at the meeting of the National Steering Committee for "Vietnam-Laos Solidarity and Friendship Year 2012," discussing the plan for implementing tasks, Politburo member, Standing member of the Secretariat, Head of the Steering Committee Le Hong Anh emphasized a number of tasks that need to be urgently implemented.
The immediate priority is to complete the establishment of a number of units such as sub-committees (propaganda, trade cooperation, security and order...), working groups under and assisting the Steering Committee by February 15...
Next is the work of inspecting and urging the implementation of plans in the spirit of efficiency and economy, while ensuring formality in form and practicality in content.
Activities and exchange programs need to be specifically planned and coordination between sectors and localities needs to be strengthened.
2012 is the year Vietnam and Laos celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations (September 5, 1962 - September 5, 2012) and the 35th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation (July 18, 1977 - July 18, 2012).
The two countries' senior leaders agreed to make 2012 the "Vietnam-Laos Solidarity and Friendship Year." In that spirit, commemorative activities will be carried out nationwide in solemn, rich and practical forms, deeply demonstrating the traditional relationship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos.
"Vietnam-Laos Solidarity and Friendship Year 2012" also aims to mark the strengthening of relations between the two countries and create a further shift in awareness at the ministerial, sectoral, local and people levels of the two countries about the anniversaries and the special relationship between Vietnam and Laos, creating a practical emulation movement to celebrate.
During the year, there will be various activities: exchanges of delegations at all levels, solemn rallies in the capitals of the two countries to celebrate two major holidays, exchange of congratulatory messages from high-ranking leaders of the two countries, awarding medals to leaders and officials of both sides...
There are also commemorative activities and exchanges between ministries, departments, branches and localities; cultural, artistic and sports exchange activities, strengthening economic and trade cooperation; press propaganda activities...
After listening to representatives of ministries, departments and branches present the implementation plan and give their suggestions, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Phuc, Politburo member, Deputy Prime Minister, Chairman of the Vietnam-Laos Cooperation Sub-Committee, Deputy Head of the Steering Committee once again affirmed the significance, especially the political significance, of the "Vietnam-Laos Solidarity and Friendship Year 2012."
The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that educating the young generation and people in remote areas about the special Vietnam-Laos solidarity has important and long-term significance.
Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc also requested ministries, departments, branches and localities to base on the general plan to deploy, make specific plans at the unit level accordingly, and at the same time closely coordinate in implementing the proposed plans.../.
