Exhibition of "super rare" editions of writer Vu Trong Phung

At the Vietnam Writers Association's 100th birthday celebration of the late writer Vu Trong Phung, many people were amazed by the exhibition of autographs and publications from the time the "king" of Northern reportage was alive.

On the morning of October 22, in Hanoi, the Vietnam Writers Association held a ceremony to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the birth of the late writer Vu Trong Phung. Previously, on the afternoon of October 21, the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Writers Association also visited and burned incense at the grave of writer Vu Trong Phung in Nhan Chinh, Hanoi.

This is an opportunity for researchers and readers to recognize his creative achievements - a unique legacy of the golden generation of modern Vietnamese literature.

According to Professor Phong Le, in the Vietnamese literary world, few people have the writing ability of Vu Trong Phung. With 27 years of life and less than 10 years of career, Vu Trong Phung has left behind a huge body of work in many genres, including 9 novels, 7 long reports, 2 long plays and dozens of short stories, memoirs, essays, translations...

More than 50 years after his death, Vu Trong Phung has returned to a worthy position in Vietnamese literature. Many activities to recognize his contributions have been carried out: collecting his posthumous works, publishing and reprinting books, organizing seminars, naming streets...

Also at this ceremony, for the first time, Vu Trung Phung's publications were displayed and introduced to readers by antique book collector Hoang Minh.

The exhibition displays handwritten manuscripts of the novel Broken Dike, some editions are old books, before 1945 when Vu Trong Phung was still alive. There are editions that are "super rare" such as the book Storm printed by Van Thanh Publishing House in 1937. According to collector Hoang Minh, currently Vietnam only has two editions, one of his and one of another collector.

“Having in my hands the manuscripts and publications of the late writer Vu Trong Phung is not only because of my respect for a great talent but also because of fate,” collector Hoang Minh shared. The film "Storm" based on the novel of the same name by writer Vu Trong Phung is considered an immortal work of Vietnamese cinema.

Before the 100th anniversary of the birth of writer Vu Trong Phung, the public also paid much attention to the event: after Lam Pro, Giong To continued to step onto the theater stage.

On August 9, playwright Chu Thom, representing Hong Van Drama Theater, and Mr. Nghiem Xuan Son, son-in-law of the late writer Vu Trong Phung, signed an agreement to adapt the novel Storm to the theater stage.

According to the signed minutes, playwright Chu Thom is in charge of adapting the script and People's Artist Hong Van is responsible for directing. The name of the adapted script is decided by the author and the script director. In addition, the minutes also require the adapting unit to fulfill copyright obligations to the writer's family.
It is expected that at the end of 2012, Hong Van Drama Theater will launch a new play adapted from the work Storm...

The Storm was written by writer Vu Trong Phung in 1936, at the same time as the release of three other novels: So Do, Vo Di and Lam Prostitute. In early 1937, The Storm was published as a separate book by Van Thanh Publishing House in Hanoi.
