On January 19, Da Nang Museum opened an exhibition of maps and documents "Hoang Sa and Truong Sa belong to Vietnam - Historical evidence" organized by the Ministry of Information and Communications in coordination with the People's Committee of Da Nang City.

The exhibition is divided into 7 main parts. Part one includes documents issued by the Vietnamese feudal court from the 17th century to the early 20th century, affirming that Vietnam had established and continuously exercised sovereignty over the Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagos. Notably, there is a collection of 21 sets of Nguyen Dynasty records, dating from the Minh Mang to Bao Dai dynasties, collected and donated by researcher Phan Thuan An.

The second part includes 95 maps and 4 atlases selected from more than 260 maps and atlases related to Vietnam's sovereignty over these two sacred archipelagos, donated by Mr. Tran Thang, an overseas Vietnamese in the US.

The maps all record Vietnam's sovereignty over Hoang Sa and Truong Sa and are displayed according to 5 themes: Maps of Vietnam during the monarchy (16th-19th centuries); maps published in the West (16th-19th centuries); maps of China published in the West (16th-20th centuries); maps of China published by Chinese states (16th-20th centuries) and visual materials, Han-Nom materials of Vietnam during the Nguyen Dynasty and before 1975.

The remaining parts include 102 publications published in Western countries; documentary images of the two archipelagos from the early 20th century to before 1975; products from the two archipelagos of Hoang Sa and Truong Sa exploited by fishermen...

The exhibition also displays 10 architectural projects selected from 43 projects participating in the Hoang Sa Exhibition House design competition organized by the Hoang Sa District People's Committee.

This is an important information activity to contribute to raising awareness, solidarity and sense of responsibility of all people, especially the youth, in protecting and affirming Vietnam's sovereignty over the Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagos.

It is known that this is the 6th exhibition on this topic held within the past year. Previously, historical evidence and documents on Vietnam's sovereignty over Hoang Sa and Truong Sa were displayed in 5 provinces: Ha Tinh (June 2013); Hanoi (July 2013); Ho Chi Minh City (August 2013); Thai Nguyen (October 2013) and Dak Lak (January 2014).

* On the same day, the People's Committee of Hoang Sa district also awarded prizes for the architectural design competition for the Hoang Sa exhibition house. There were 10 winning projects (3 Second prizes, 3 Third prizes, 4 Encouragement prizes) out of a total of 43 projects. The three winning projects included the project of architect Nguyen Thach (Phuc Gia School Company); the author group of Hanoi University of Civil Engineering Consulting Company and the author group of WRIGHT Architecture Company (Japan).
