It is likely that Vietnam Motor Show 2014, the largest auto exhibition of the year, will continue to be held in Ho Chi Minh City, instead of moving to Hanoi.
This information was revealed to the press by a member of the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association (VAMA). Thus, this will be the second consecutive year that the Vietnam Motor Show takes place in Ho Chi Minh City.
Traditionally, Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi are two rotating locations for the exhibition organized by VAMA and now there is also the participation of a group of official car importers.
The reason Vietnam Motor Show 2014 “avoids” Hanoi, according to the explanation of the organizing committee members, is mainly due to the limited exhibition space of Giang Vo Exhibition and Fair Center. Meanwhile, there is currently no location in Hanoi that meets the requirements for a large auto show.
The exhibition took place at the Saigon Exhibition and Convention Center (SECC) in late October last year, Vietnam Motor Show had 15 car manufacturers participating, thus becoming the largest exhibition ever. This was also the second exhibition with the participation of official importers. Notably, there were some new brands such as Lexus, Infinity and Nissan.
The organizers are currently accepting registrations to participate in the exhibition from domestic automobile manufacturers under VAMA and authorized importers that meet the standards stipulated in Circular 20 of the Ministry of Industry and Trade. It is also possible that the scale of this year’s exhibition will be expanded with the participation of new brands entering the market.
Therefore, it seems that Vietnam Motor Show 2014 cannot avoid Hanoi and will most likely continue to avoid it for the next few years. This is also bad news for car consumers in the Northern market.
