Exhibition "Vietnam in my eyes" by American female artist
With the keen eye of an artist, Soraya quickly recognized the rustic, secret, and heartbreaking beauty of the Vietnamese landscape and people.
With the support and cooperation of the Vietnam-US Association, the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations and the US Embassy in Hanoi, on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of Vietnam-US diplomatic relations, the art exhibition "Vietnam in my eyes" by American female artist Soraya will be held in Hanoi.
Soraya lived in Hanoi during the historic period when her husband, Christopher Runckel, former Deputy Chief of Mission, was the first American diplomat to be sent to Vietnam after the war. Now, 20 years later, she wants to share some of her paintings depicting scenes and daily life from then and now.

Vietnamese landscapes and people come alive through the drawings of artist Soraya.
Born in Bangkok, Thailand to a renowned architect, Soraya has been passionate about painting since childhood. She paints in a variety of media: watercolor, pen and ink, acrylic and Chinese brush. Her work has been exhibited in many places, including Thailand (2014 and 1987), the United States (2004), China (1999), Vietnam (1995) and the United Kingdom (1999).
Her works depict the cultures and landscapes of the places she has visited. They exude a sense of joy with their meticulous and varied lines. “Soraya is a talented painter in many genres,” the London Times commented on her at a previous exhibition of her work in London.
This exhibition includes paintings depicting events that took place in 1995, including the Signing Ceremony of the Normalization of Relations between the two countries and the Opening Ceremony of the US Embassy in Vietnam, as well as everyday scenes in Vietnam, such as the beer street corner in Hanoi's Old Quarter, bustling streets in Saigon, and ethnic minorities in the highlands and many other paintings...
With the keen eye of an artist, Soraya quickly recognized the rustic, secret, and heart-wrenching beauty of the Vietnamese landscape and people, inspiring viewers from the very first minute. Soraya paints with many materials: acrylic, watercolor, pen and ink, and Chinese brush.
The exhibition will take place from December 8 to 10 at the Vietnamese Women's Museum, 36 Ly Thuong Kiet, Hanoi and from December 11 to 13 at the British University, 193 Ba Trieu, Hanoi./.
