Dismantling an inter-provincial fraud ring, making 2,000 fake calls per day
Every day, the group impersonates e-commerce platform employees and makes 1,500 - 2,000 calls to defraud and appropriate property.
On May 11, Cao Bang Provincial Police said they had just dismantled a group of people who committed fraud on the internet by impersonating e-commerce trading floors.
Specifically, around March 2024, the Criminal Police Department and the Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention Department (Cao Bang Provincial Police) received information about a group of people impersonating employees of the Shopee e-commerce platform, calling people on the pretext of thanking customers.
The subjects invited people to make friends on Zalo and instructed them to make transactions to appropriate money.

Police identified Nguyen Thi Tuyet Dang (34 years old, residing in Group 11, De Tham Ward, Cao Bang City) as one of the important "links" in the above-mentioned fraud ring. This subject ran two fraud groups in Cao Bang and Thai Nguyen provinces.
On the morning of May 11, authorities issued an emergency detention order for Nguyen Thi Tuyet Dang and searched her residence.
During the search, the authorities discovered that at Dang's rented house (address 366, group 5, De Tham ward), 12 subjects were connecting and calling many people to commit crimes.
On the same day, Cao Bang Provincial Police presided over and arrested 14 subjects at address 19B, lane 021, Chu Van An street, Thai Nguyen city, Thai Nguyen province, who were committing similar acts.
At the two locations above, the police seized a total of 33 laptops along with many related objects and documents.
Working with the police, initially, the subject Dang confessed that on average each day the subjects made 1,500 - 2,000 phone calls to people across the country to commit fraud.
Cao Bang Provincial Police are continuing to investigate and clarify the case according to regulations.
