Rare symptoms of breast cancer

Breast cancer is a dangerous disease, but if detected early, the cure rate is up to 90%.

Breast cancer is a common disease in women, especially those aged 40 and over. According to statistics, only 10% of breast cancer patients are under 40 years old, 25% of breast cancer occurs in women aged 40 and over to 50 years old, 50% of cases of breast cancer are detected in women aged 50 and over.

Breast cancer is more common in women than in men, but that does not mean men will not get breast cancer. However, breast cancer in men is often easier to detect than in women.

Science has not yet determined the exact cause of breast cancer, but there are some risk factors in women that increase the likelihood of breast cancer, such as giving birth for the first time late (after age 30), using hormonal drugs, radiation exposure, carrying the BRCA1 gene, obesity...

One of the most common signs of breast cancer is the appearance of a lump or abnormal mass in the breast. However, many breast cancer patients discover they have the disease when it is already in its late stages because they cannot feel the lump or do not pay attention to changes in their body.

Some people experience symptoms but do not know they are signs of breast cancer because these are rare and atypical symptoms of the disease.

Dr. Holly Pederson, Director of Breast Cancer, Cleveland Medical Center, USA, said that there are many little-talked-about symptoms of breast cancer, but they are the leading signs of breast disease.

Not all of these lesser-known symptoms are breast cancer, many are just benign lumps in the breast. He has listed some rare signs of breast cancer, including:

Rare symptoms of breast cancer

Breast wrinkles:If a woman, when she raises her arm and looks in the mirror, can see wrinkles anywhere on her chest (breast), she needs to get medical examination immediately.

If a tumor develops in the breast, it will disrupt the structure of the skin, creating wrinkles on the outside. These wrinkles will disappear when the patient lowers his or her arm.

Nipple discharge:In fact, nipple discharge is a relatively common sign. Usually, if you squeeze your nipple and it comes out white, green or brown, in most cases it is not a sign of breast cancer.

But with these signs you also need to see a specialist. If the discharge from the nipple is red like blood or clear, this sign is extremely dangerous because you have a high risk of breast cancer.

Breast pain:If a woman over 50 has breast pain, she should be tested for breast cancer. This is a rare symptom of breast cancer because in postmenopausal women, breast pain is less common, especially pain in a certain location. It is caused by the growth of cancer.

Peeling of the breast, change in color of the nipple or areola:If there are signs of peeling or irritation on the nipple or areola, women should pay attention to check their breasts. When the nipple is unusually red or purple, it is due to cancer cells invading the nipple area, causing a change in the color of the nipple or areola.

Red spots on chest:Red spots on the breast are often overlooked, says Dr. Pederson, because they can be a sign of inflammatory breast cancer.

This is a rare type of cancer but progresses very quickly. The patient's breast is often swollen, red, especially the skin in this area is often thickened. However, with breast infections, the breast also becomes red.

To differentiate inflammatory breast cancer from breast infection, the signs of breast infection often occur suddenly, with swelling, pain, and redness in the breast area, accompanied by fever. While inflammatory breast cancer often initially feels heavy in the breast area, then feels like the skin thickens, and finally becomes red and swollen, its progression is often gradual.

Regardless of the typical symptoms (tumors, lumps) or atypical symptoms mentioned above, women need to go for a check-up immediately to detect breast cancer early. Regular health check-ups are the best way to prevent breast cancer, especially for women aged 40 and over, who should have their breasts checked at least once a year at a medical facility.
