(Baonghean) - Mr. Ly No Po in Minh Chau village, Tri Le commune, Que Phong district has contracted the Huoi Xai mountain area to raise and graze Mong cows and horses.

From livestock farming, Mr. Po's family earns 400 - 500 million VND per year. He is also one of the few households in Tri Le commune that has successfully preserved the rare genetic breeds of indigenous cows and horses.

Mr. Ly No Po used to live in Pa Khom village, Tri Le commune, Que Phong district. Since 2000, implementing the policy of bringing Mong ethnic people to settle in the new economic zone - Minh Chau village, his family has also moved here to live.

As a person with experience in animal husbandry, especially in the customs of the Mong people, Mr. Po has contracted the Huoi Xai mountain area, delimiting the area to develop animal husbandry. In a place where “the land is not three steps flat, the sky is not three sunny days”, plowing is an art, only an ox can pull the plow to help the Mong people “cultivate the rocky soil”.

The highland yellow cattle breed has been raised by the Mong people for a long time, so it is also called Mong cattle. This breed of cattle has good resistance to adverse weather conditions and diseases.

The cows have light yellow, dark yellow or cockroach-wing coats, a few are jet black or white, large ears, slightly arched backs, long rumps, deep chests, high legs, and a hump or flat forehead. In general, this is a large breed of cows, with high meat yield and delicious meat quality.

Up to now, Mr. Ly No Po's family's herd of cows has grown to 60. In addition, he has also bred and developed a herd of 20 Mong horses and a herd of 8-9 buffaloes.

What's special is that only his cattle know how to return to the barn when the owner calls, saving a lot of time spent herding them. In total, his family's average income from raising cattle each year is 400 - 500 million VND.

Born and raised in Mong Pa Khom village, he only crossed the mountain top in front of his house a few times in his life, but what Mr. Po has done has surprised many people...

Mr. Vi Van Hoi - Chairman of Tri Le Commune Farmers' Association said: Mr. Ly No Po's livestock model is one of the 20 most effective economic models in the commune. Mr. Po is also a typical example of good economic performance, honored to attend the district's Patriotic Emulation Congress in the period 2010 - 2015.

Now, although he is nearly 70 years old, Mr. Po is still as flexible as the Ly family of the village. Every day, his steps are still steady as he climbs the slope to the top of Huoi Xai, still has enough strength to climb over 4 hills and 5 streams to look after his cows and horses.

Saying goodbye to Mr. Po in the middle of the harsh sunlight slanting straight down on the hilltop, he said that now his greatest wish is that the commune will preserve the rare Mong cattle and horses of his people, so that no family in Minh Chau village or Pa Khom village will have to suffer hunger and poverty like before.
