The missiles were fired from Sondok town in South Hamkyung province in eastern North Korea at around 18-19 hours (local time, or around 20-21 hours Vietnam time).
The move comes as the US and South Korea are conducting two annual exercises in parallel, called Key Resolve and Foal Eagle.
The Key Resolve exercise ended on the morning of March 13 while the Foal Eagle exercise will last until April 24.
Pyongyang has issued a statement strongly protesting the joint US-South Korea military exercises, accusing them of being "an invasion rehearsal."
On March 2, North Korea fired two short-range missiles believed to be Scud ballistic missiles into the East Sea, while warning of a “merciless” response to the joint US-South Korea military exercises./.
