North Korean leader Kim Jong-un personally commanded this missile launch exercise.
The Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said on July 27 that the exercise took place exactly one day before the 61st anniversary of the signing of the Armistice Agreement ending the Korean War (1950-1953).
According to KCNA, this exercise was carried out by a strategic force of North Korea, although the agency did not announce the specific time and location of the exercise.

In its information, KCNA stated: "Chairman Kim Jong-un checked the plan to fire missiles at US military bases in South Korea clearly drawn on the map and the ability to attack and destroy these bases before directly directing the drill."
Meanwhile, Yonhap quoted South Korean military officials as saying that North Korea fired a short-range missile into the East Sea on the night of July 26.
South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) said the missile launched by North Korea could be a Scud missile with a range of about 500km and was fired from North Korea's Jangsan Cape.
The exercise on the night of July 26 was the 15th rocket launch and the 6th ballistic missile launch conducted by North Korea this year.
The international community has condemned the above rocket and missile launches by North Korea as a violation of the United Nations Security Council Resolution.
Meanwhile, North Korea claims that it launches rockets and missiles to serve the development of its missile science and technology./.
