North Korea will soon put a military reconnaissance satellite into orbit properly, the official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said on June 19 after a plenary meeting of the 8th Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea.

KCNA stated that the complex and serious situation on the Korean Peninsula is getting out of control, requiring North Korea to constantly renew its military potential and move faster towards enhancing its self-defense capabilities. The country identified launching military reconnaissance satellites as an important task in its national space development strategy.

At a three-day meeting to discuss diplomatic and defense strategies, the Workers' Party of Korea also reviewed the implementation of goals set for the first half of 2023, including increasing grain output and improving infrastructure for economic development, and set new agendas including promoting education.

The statement was made in the context that North Korea on May 31 failed in its first military reconnaissance missile test due to a booster failure. The US, Japan and South Korea strongly condemned the satellite test, considering it a serious violation of UN Security Council resolutions./.
