In its opening speech at the Workers' Party Congress on May 6, the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of Korea (CPRK) affirmed that Washington is the cause of the deadlock on the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula.
The CPRK representative also added that if South Korea wants to resolve the nuclear deadlock on the Korean peninsula, it needs to ask the US to abandon its hostile policies toward the country.
The commission also said that unless the United States changes course and abandons its threats to North Korea, North Korea will continue to develop its nuclear programs at an even faster pace.
In addition, the CPRK spokesman stated that it is completely reasonable to counter nuclear weapons with nuclear weapons. In addition, the CPRK added that North Korea already possesses a thermonuclear bomb.
The CPRK's stance comes as most countries in the world do not accept North Korea as a nuclear weapons state and call on the country to abandon its nuclear programs.
North Korea conducted its first nuclear weapons test in 2006. Subsequent tests followed in 2009 and 2013. The most recent nuclear test in January 2016, along with a long-range ballistic missile test in February 2016, prompted the United Nations to impose what are considered the toughest sanctions ever imposed on the country.
