Growing passion fruit earns 5-7 million VND/month

(Baonghean) - Raising fattened livestock, growing passion fruit, pumpkin, upland rice, digging ponds to raise fish... are effective economic activities that help people in Tri Le commune (Que Phong) gradually escape poverty and stabilize their lives.

Following the 30a cadres of the commune, we went to Yen Son village - one of the localities with a large area of ​​passion fruit in Tri Le commune. Passion fruit trees have been planted in the border area for 6 years, becoming a key crop in the local economic development. The whole commune has 108 hectares of passion fruit trees, concentrated in Yen Son, Xan, and D1 villages.

Mr. Vi Van Son, in Yen Son village, is one of the households growing passion fruit with the largest area. His farm is 1.3 hectares wide with 800 lemon trees, each year producing about 11 tons of fruit, priced at 10,000 VND/kg, bringing in more than 100 million VND for his family. As for Mr. Luong Van Dong in Xan village, he grows 150 passion fruit trees on an area of ​​2,000m2.2, bringing in an income of 3 - 4 million VND/month. Tri Le people's passion fruit is purchased by Nafoods Joint Stock Company, so the output is stable. Households with passion fruit growing areas all have an average income of 5 - 7 million VND/month, higher than households growing common varieties.

Many households also intercrop winter crops such as squash, pumpkin, and vegetables with passion fruit to increase income and sell to the market.

Mr. Ha Van Son, Yen Son village said: “My family grows pumpkins among 300 lemon trees. Pumpkins are expensive and always popular, sometimes the price is up to 20,000 VND/kg, helping us earn extra income every day.”

Previously, food was a difficult problem for people in the highlands, but up to now, the whole Tri Le commune has grown 316 hectares of rice, contributing to food stability. Currently, the rice is ready for harvest with an estimated yield of 5 tons/ha.

Over the past years, Tri Le has also promoted the transformation of agricultural and rural economy, doing well in the work of sedentarization, settlement, protection and development of forest economy. The integration of investment programs for afforestation and support programs according to Resolution 30a of the Government has been effectively implemented, the area of ​​​​land allotment is 120ha, forest protection is 757ha, forest coverage rate is 75%.

Tri Le people also diversify in raising buffaloes, fattened cows, wild boars, goats... The total herd currently has 2,400 buffaloes, 4,100 cows, 5,300 pigs, 650 goats and more than 27,000 poultry. In the past, there were no epidemics in the commune because vaccination work was proactive, guaranteed and timely.

Aquaculture is also a strong point of the people here with a total aquaculture water surface area of ​​14.8 hectares. The commune has developed a project to raise fish in cages at Kem Ai dam. Most households with large production areas dig ponds to raise grass carp, bighead carp, tilapia, etc. The fresh water from rivers and streams is very clean, and freshwater fish grow well.

Many effective economic methods have helped people in the Tri Le border commune gradually improve their quality of life. Mr. Ngan Van Son - Head of the Commune's Agriculture Department said: The government always creates all conditions for ethnic people to feel secure in doing business. The commune regularly opens training classes, promotes agriculture, introduces economic models for people to learn, and at the same time tests new crops, adapts to the difficult land of Tri Le to expand production.
