Growing hybrid gac fruit for sale brings in a profit of 80 million VND/ha

Mr. Ngo Trung Truc's family in village 9, Hoa Son commune has 2 sao of gac fruit that has been grown for 3 years. The hybrid gac fruit is of good quality, large, with an average weight of 2-3 kg. The fruit has few thorns, is dark green, and when ripe, is red, has a high percentage of peeling flesh, and is dark red.

Normally, gac is sold for 5,000 - 7,000 VND/kg, but during the holidays, gac is in high demand, each kg is sold for 12,000 VND but there is still no product to sell.

Gac is grown commercially by many families in Anh Son.

Meanwhile, Mr. Nguyen Van Tuyen's family, in Hamlet 2, Tao Son Commune, planted 5 sao of gac, with dense, dangling fruits. Mr. Tuyen said: Hybrid gac is a plant that lives quite long, from 15 to 20 years, is not picky about soil, and has few pests and diseases, so the family invested in making a solid trellis with concrete poles for gac to climb for long-term use. In the first batches, there were fruits weighing up to 4 kg, on average each harvest, his family picked 3.5 quintals, with a purchase price of 7,000 VND/kg, the family earned 6 - 7 million VND/sao.

The black hybrid gac growing model in Tao Son commune has 32 households participating in growing gac. Mr. Hoang Van Cam, chairman of the Farmers' Association of Tao Son commune, said: Currently, Tao Son commune has 5.4 hectares of gac. After more than 2 years of implementation, the model has achieved 6-7 quintals/sao each year, bringing in an income of 10-15 million VND/sao. After harvesting the gac, Nghe An Food Joint Stock Company will purchase and consume the gac in the garden.

Gac tree can keep its roots for over 15 years.

Currently, hybrid gac trees are mainly concentrated in the communes of Tao Son, Hoi Son, Phuc Son, Hoa Son... According to calculations of gac growers, 1 hectare of gac has a first crop yield of 10-12 tons. With the current price, after deducting costs, each hectare of gac will bring in an income of 70-80 million VND. From the second crop, eliminating male gac varieties that do not produce fruit as well as female gac varieties to reach 100% of the area for yield, income will increase much more.

In 2015, Anh Son district mobilized people to improve land and gardens, and plant 10 new hectares of gac, bringing the total area of ​​hybrid gac in the district to 76 hectares.
