The owner of this French grape trellis on the third floor terrace is Mr. Pham Dang Khoa (born in 1969). Mr. Khoa is currently working at the Office of the Lai Chau Provincial People's Committee.

In addition to the time spent on busy work, going to the rooftop to take care of the vegetable garden, clean fruits and especially watching the grape vines full of fruit is a way to help Mr. Khoa reduce the pressure of work every day.

The strange thing is that even though it is only grown in a narrow space on the third floor terrace, the grapevine is extremely fruitful and heavy with branches.

Growing grapes for shade and fruit, Mr. Khoa absolutely does not use pesticides.

"I started growing grapes on the terrace in September 2015, this is the second year the grapevines have produced fruit. This year, the fruit is more abundant and bigger than last year because I also went online and learned from many grape-growing friends across the country," said Mr. Khoa.

When asked about this French grape variety, Mr. Khoa said, "I asked for 5 grapevines from a friend and brought them home to plant. Luckily, all five survived and grew very well."

Talking about the reason for starting to grow grapes, Mr. Khoa excitedly said: "Because a friend gave him the seeds and before, on the rooftop of my house, I grew many types of vegetables from fruits to leaves, but my family did not use them all, so it was a waste, so I decided to use part of the rooftop area to grow grapes.

Initially, Mr. Khoa only planted grapes to create shade on the terrace, to help cool the house and save space. Unexpectedly, the grape trellis bore so much fruit. "The fruit is bigger and more fruitful than last year because this year the trees are bigger and I have more experience taking care of the fruit," Mr. Khoa said.

He grows grapes for shade and fruit so he absolutely does not use pesticides.

Not only growing grapes, Mr. Khoa also grows many other types of vegetables on the terrace such as vegetables, cucumbers, melons, beans, squash... he even grows orchids. Growing clean vegetables and fruits on the terrace helps his family have fresh, clean food in their daily meals.

And so every morning or afternoon after work, he goes to the third floor terrace to cut off damaged, diseased, and old leaves to avoid spreading pests to the entire trellis.

The grape trellis is welded with a water pipe frame, using telephone wire to string the vines for the grapes to climb. The 35m2 terrace is now almost completely covered by the grape trellis.

According to Mr. Khoa, this is the second year of growing grapes, but the trees have produced so many fruits that it is impossible to count exactly how many bunches. If the entire trellis is harvested, it will probably be about 4-5 times more than last year. Meanwhile, last year, he harvested about more than half a quintal of grapes.

"The grapes do not ripen evenly, so in about a month, my family will be able to start enjoying the grapes ripened on this trellis. The grapes are also very sweet and fragrant, with a mango scent that is very "popular" with my wife and children," Mr. Khoa boasted.

Revealing the plan to harvest this super lucky grape trellis, Mr. Khoa said that because the number of lucky grapes is so large, in addition to eating them as soon as they are ripe and sharing them with relatives and neighbors, Mr. Khoa will use the grapes to soak in wine.

This type of grape is also very sweet and fragrant, with a light taste. When eaten, it has a mango scent, and is especially "popular" with his wife and children.
