World's fastest helicopter will fly 500km/h
It is a hybrid helicopter with a jet engine, an improved version called the Airbus Eurocopter X3. With a speed of up to nearly 500km/h, this will be the fastest helicopter in the world.

Compared to the speed of a commercial jet, 500km/h is still too "mosquito", but in the world of helicopters, that speed would be "terrifying".
Airbus has filed a patent for the helicopter. The Eurocopter X3 is the world's fastest helicopter currently in development. It was first introduced informally in 2013.
The reason for the extremely fast flight speed is the flexible operating mechanism of the Eurocopter X3. This helicopter can "transform" into a normal aircraft to accelerate when needed.

The Eurocopter X3 does away with the need for a tail rotor, which is a must-have feature for any helicopter. The tail rotor helps keep the helicopter balanced, but on the Eurocopter X3, this function is taken care of by the side rotors.
It is not clear when the Eurocopter X3 will be available, but it could be in the next two or three years.
