Trump praises US soldiers launching missiles to attack Syria

"Congratulations to the great men and women of our military for representing America and the world so well in the attack on Syria," Fox News quoted Mr. Trump as writing on Twitter today.

President Trump mentionedTwo US destroyers on April 7 launched 59 cruise missiles at an airbase near the city of Homs, Syria.

Tomahawk missiles were launched from the USS Ross and USS Porter in the eastern Mediterranean, targeting several targets at Shayrat base, Homs province.The US military targeted aircraft, gas stations, air defense and radar systems, logistics warehouses, and ammunition depots in the attack on the Syrian airbase.

According to the newspaperCapital Gazette, ship commanderUSS Porter is a female lieutenant colonel.

Mr. Trump also affirmed that there would be further action in Syria if necessary, in a letter to the US Congress. He said that launching missiles to attack Syria was for the vital national security interests of the United States and for the foreign policy of this country.

The US president ordered the missile launch just one day after he said thatSyrian President Bashar al-Assadbehind the chemical attack that killed more than 80 people, including many children, in the town of Khan Sheikhoun. However,The Syrian government denied being behind the incident.
