"Fair trade is now called stupid trade if it is not symmetrical. Canada says they make almost $100 billion in trade with the United States, at least $17 billion. The United States pays a 270% tariff on dairy from Canada. When it comes out, Justin acts like they were hurt" - Trump posted on Twitter today, according toReuters.

Trumpmade the above comments after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced on June 9 that he would retaliate against Trump's new proposed tariffs.Trump aides later accused Trudeau of being a "traitor".

"Why should I, the President of the United States, let other countries continue to run massive trade surpluses like they have for decades while our farmers, workers, and taxpayers pay huge and unfair prices. Not fair to the American people. $800 Billion Trade Deficit?" Trump wrote in a second post.

The US President then turned to German Chancellor Angela Merkel's government, saying that Germany only spends 1% of its GDP on NATO while the US spends 4% of its much larger GDP."Who would believe this is reasonable? We protect Europe at great financial cost, and then we suffer unfair trade. Change is coming."

Trump then ended by posting: "It was great to be in Singapore, the atmosphere was really lively."

Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un arrived in Singapore on June 10 for the most anticipated summit in recent world history aimed at resolving North Korea's nuclear arsenal.

White House economic adviser Larry Kudlow on June 10 criticized Trudeau for making "polarizing" statements about US trade policy, and accused Prime Minister Trudeau of "stabbing the US in the back". KudlowTrump withdrew from the G7 joint statement because Canada "played a double game."

Canada's foreign minister condemned the comments as "inappropriate and unhelpful personal attacks for us in building relationships with other countries", while Germany and France also criticised Trump's comments.

The attacks on Trudeau and G7 members are just the latest in Trump's clashes with longtime US allies, while he has warm words for Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.
