Historically, US presidents have repeatedly gone coatless during their inaugurations in cold weather, possibly as a subtle show of strength.

From 1793 to 1933, the US Presidential inauguration took place on March 4 - the day the US Constitution was signed in 1789, which was in the spring in Washington DC. However, that changed in 1937, when the ceremony was moved to January 20 to shorten the time between the election and the inauguration.

The move resulted in a bitterly cold inauguration: the average high temperature in Washington on January 20 was 6 degrees Celsius, and the lowest temperature was -2 degrees Celsius.

That hasn't stopped US presidents from ditching their coats on inauguration day, however. The 34th US president, Dwight D. Eisenhower, started the coatless trend for his second inauguration in 1957. He took off his coat before delivering his inaugural address, possibly to emphasize US military might at the height of the Cold War.

The last president to not wear a coat was Bill Clinton.

So what will Donald Trump wear? The weather forecast calls for a high of 8 degrees Celsius in Washington on January 20, and Trump is known to like wearing long coats, so Yahoo predicts he will most likely wear a coat.
