Exhibition of images of 54 Vietnamese ethnic groups in France
“54” is the name of the exhibition by photographer Sebastien Laval together with Le Vuong - a photographer and veteran, which will be displayed at Senat, in the Luxembourg garden, Paris from June 25 to July 6. The exhibition officially opens at 11am, June 26.
Sebastien Laval, a young French photographer, first came to Vietnam in 1995 and was immediately fascinated by the people and landscapes there. He then spent 18 years documenting the lives of 54 ethnic groups as well as the landscapes of this land that to him was extremely mysterious.
Laval’s black and white photographs reflect his energy and passion as he explores a fascinating world, from everyday activities to idyllic natural landscapes. Laval’s photographs capture the passion and beauty he finds in the most ordinary moments.
Previously, more than 60 of Laval's photographs of 54 ethnic groups were displayed at Truong Tien Bridge during the Hue Festival in May 2014. French filmmaker Bertrand Edel and Faut Pas Rever/Thalassa France TV 3 made a film about Laval and his works.
Meanwhile, photographer and veteran Le Vuong has devoted his entire life to Vietnamese photography. At the age of 95, the Hanoian man still rides his bicycle every morning, exploring the city and capturing the moments of life around him.
He also traveled tirelessly across the country, collecting for himself a treasure trove of precious memories of life in a country that was constantly changing. Using mainly color photographs, his work depicted the daily life of the cities and countries he loved.
Le Vuong's works have been exhibited in Europe, Asia and are hung at the Vietnam Fine Arts Museum in Hanoi.
These works by the two photographers were also displayed in December 2013 at the Ho Chi Minh Museum as part of activities celebrating the Vietnam-France friendship./.
