For the first time, a collection of artworks depicting the Vietnam War from 1954-1975 has been displayed at the National University of Singapore (NUS) Museum.

In particular, these are works from the collection of an individual - former Malaysian Ambassador to Vietnam, Mr. Dato' N Parameswaran.

Viewers can see images of three-pronged bombs, national defense soldiers participating in suicide squads during the resistance war against France, or the exciting years when the whole country fought against the American imperialist invaders... vividly depicted through woodcuts, sketches or propaganda posters that the author has painstakingly collected.

The collection makes it easy for viewers to imagine the image of Vietnamese people, whether on the front line or in the rear, all devoted to the Fatherland, fighting off invaders.

Former Malaysian Ambassador to Vietnam, Dato' N Parameswaran, said he was very fond of the people and country of Vietnam. Therefore, this was a great source of inspiration for him to collect this rather large collection of artworks during his years working in Vietnam (1990-1993) as well as many years after.

The artworks are all by Vietnamese artists that the author loves such as Huynh Van Thuan, Phan Ke An, Hoang Dinh Tai, Le Tri Dung, Quang Son, Pham Ngoc Doanh, Huy Toan, Pham Luc...

"I have been collecting for three years. You can see that NUS currently has about 40 works on display here. But during the exhibition, there will be 199 works on display. And hopefully in the near future, they will display all 1,200 works that I have. The history of the Vietnam War (1954-1975) will then be fully recreated. So what you see in the brochure or on the walls is only 1/6 of the collection. Through the process of collecting, I have understood a lot more about the Vietnamese people," said Dato' N Parameswaran.

A collection of artworks about the Vietnam War from 1954-1975 will be displayed at the NUS Vietnam Museum of Art for three years.

Mr. Dato' N Parameswaran said that not only will he display this valuable collection, he also intends to resell it to prestigious organizations and collectors, especially Vietnamese museums, to preserve the works of art.
