China and South Korea agree to promote negotiations with North Korea
Chinese President Xi Jinping held talks with his visiting South Korean counterpart Park Geun-hye on June 27.
This is Park Geun-hye's first state visit to Beijing since taking office in February.
During the talks, Chinese President Xi Jinping hoped that this visit would leave a good impression on Ms. Park Geun-hye, and affirmed that China highly values the importance of its relationship with South Korea and that this is an important part of Beijing's foreign policy.

He said he will cooperate with President Park Geun-hye to strongly promote the bilateral strategic and cooperative partnership, expressing his belief that President Park Geun-hye's visit will add momentum to the development of bilateral relations.
Regarding the situation on the Korean Peninsula, the Chinese President affirmed Beijing's clear stance of seeking measures to denuclearize the Korean Peninsula. Mr. Xi Jinping stated: "China firmly opposes any party undermining peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula and the region, and pursues resolving differences through dialogue."
For her part, President Park Geun-hye emphasized that the China-Korea relationship has made remarkable progress since the two countries established diplomatic relations more than 20 years ago.
She said she would use this visit to strengthen bilateral relations and promote more positive results in maintaining peace and stability in Northeast Asia. In addition, President Park Geun-hye also mentioned the importance of promoting bilateral cooperation in the economic and security fields as well as people-to-people exchanges.
Reuters news agency said the two leaders agreed to promote new rounds of talks with North Korea. After the China-South Korea summit, the South Korean Presidential Office issued a statement stating: "The two leaders shared common views on the issue of denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, maintaining peace and security on the Korean Peninsula and resolving issues through dialogue and negotiations."
During her four-day visit to China, starting on June 27, South Korean President Park Geun-hye is expected to meet with Prime Minister Li Keqiang and National Assembly Chairman Zhang Dejiang, and visit Xi'an city, the capital of Shaanxi province (Northwest China)./.
