China: 14 dead in mosque stampede
About 14 people were killed and 10 others injured in a stampede at a mosque in Xiji County, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, northwest China, Xinhua News Agency reported on January 6.
The stampede occurred at around 1 p.m. on January 5 during a traditional ceremony to hand out food to attendees of a memorial service for the late religious leader, sources said.
The injured were reportedly hospitalized in critical condition. An investigation has been launched into the cause of the stampede at the mosque. Ningxia is home to a Chinese-speaking Muslim minority./.
